Lo scorso mese di Luglio a 111 è morto Harry Patch, l'ultimo soldato sopravvissuto alla I Guerra Mondiale.I Radiohead lo hanno voluto celebrare con un singolo nuovo di zecca.
La canzone, intitolata "Harry Patch (In memory of)", dopo essere stata presentata in anteprima alla BBC è stata messa in download sul sito ufficiale (http://www.radiohead.com/) della band di Oxford al prezzo di 1 sterlina.
Ecco cosa dice il leader del gruppo in merito alla faccenda:
“Sarebbe molto facile per la nostra generazione dimenticare il vero orrore della guerra, senza gli sforzi che ha fatto Harry per ricordarcelo. Spero che non lo dimenticheremo”.
Una vicenda umana che ha affascinato Thom Yorke al punto da spingerlo a comporre questa poesia:
"I am the only one that got through the others died where ever they fell it was an ambush they came up from all sides give your leaders each a gun and then let them fight it out themselves i’ve seen devils coming up from the ground i’ve seen hell upon this earth the next will be chemical but they will never learn."
